Our beautiful girls are about to kid. In all, I have ten girls due; some will not drop until December, but the others are due over the next two weeks. As usual, it’s a time of year in which you wait to see who will kid first and if you are fortunate enough to get some beautiful Doe’s to join your herd. The first girls are due on the 24th of Sept., so let’s hope for a stress-free labour for them all.
Five of the girls are maidens; one of them is our Lucky. For those of you who don’t recall Lucky, her brother was taken by a python, and I found her in the dirt the next morning, still in her sack. I thought she was dead, but when I scooped her up, she cried. I raced her to the house, and that is where she stayed. Her mum was too traumatised to take her back. I don’t think she’s impressed with me, but I keep telling her, wait until you have little hooves jumping all over you; then you will love being a mum.
